What is Acne?

Acne is a highly distressing and most found condition that suits the skin’s oil glands. The small holes or pores in one’s skin joined to oil glands. These glands generate sebum, an oily substance. The pores are joined to the glands by a canal called a follicle.

Oil transports the dead skin cells inside the follicles all the way to the skin surface. A thin hair also develops by the follicle and out to the skin. The clogging or blocking of follicle of a skin gland helps in the birth of pimple. The most common areas where pimples grow are typically found on the neck, back, face, chest and shoulders. They also have the potential to grow almost anywhere.

Acne can lead to unsightly and in rare cases – perennial scarring but may not be life threatening. Acne develops when the sebum, hair, and skin cells clump together to make a plug. A bacterium develops in the plug that leads to swelling. Then when the plug begins to break down, a pimple develops.
